How To Survive A Blizzard

Survive A Blizzard

If you live in snowy regions, you’re probably familiar with the power of blizzards.

These storms are some of the most difficult to travel in, with high wind speed and near white-out conditions that make it hard to orient oneself when outside. They can cause a slew of electrical issues and can damage trees, homes, and other structures.

However, even if you get caught outside in a blizzard, there are ways to survive!

Preparation Is Key

Of course, having a winter survival kit in your car is absolutely vital to surviving, especially if you’re somewhere that has chances of blizzards pretty frequently.

Prep this emergency kit, and have it on hand for those moments in which you happen to be stuck outside in a blizzard. The kit might include some things like:

  • Matches
  • Candles
  • Food
  • Water
  • Containers
  • Boots
  • Gloves
  • Hats
  • A flashlight
  • A flare or other signal
  • An extra sleeping bag

Know Your Car

Once you realize that you’re stuck in a blizzard, the best thing to do is stay put unless there are nearby buildings. If you’re going to be staying in the car, immediately make sure that the exhaust pipe is clear of any snow or other buildup.

Not doing so could result in carbon monoxide poisoning and even death.

Make sure to put on your hazard lights, too. Not only will it alert other drivers that you’re there, but it can help potential rescuers find you faster.

Always Be Ready For Blizzards

During the winter, you can never be too safe! Keep your emergency blizzard kit up-to-date and make sure to use these tips to keep your car a safe spot to be while you wait out the storm.
