Purse snatching can occur anywhere – in crowded, unfamiliar places, and even in your own neighborhood.
For this reason, it’s important to be on your guard to keep your valuables from getting stolen. Thankfully, there are ways to prevent this crime from happening entirely!
Only Bring What’s Necessary
If you’re traveling or going out shopping, either bring a much smaller bag that you can keep in your sight at all times or only bring what fits into the pocket of your pants or jacket.
Consider only carrying your wallet, phone, keys, and ID in order to make it easy to carry your valuables without using a purse or other bag.
If you must use a purse, try and find a cross-body bag that doesn’t just hang off of one shoulder. This will make it harder for purse snatchers to grab.
Be Aware Of Yourself
You should always be vigilant of your surroundings. Though it might be easy to space out while walking through the mall, letting your guard down will only make it easier for assailants to grab your purse.
Know when areas are going to be particularly congested, and always be aware of both yourself and the people around you. If something or someone seems suspicious, do your best to remove yourself from the situation as fast and as safely as you can.
Stick To Places You Know
Even if you’re traveling somewhere new, you’ll want to stay in well-light, easily accessible areas that you know at least fairly well. Going down dark alleys or exploring on your own can make you a huge target for those looking to steal purses and other valuable items.
The best way to prevent purse snatching is to be aware of yourself and to prepare for carrying your most important belongings directly on your person. As long as you’re consistently vigilant, you’ll be able to keep purse-snatchers away!
